Investigation of metal parts damage incidents

It is possible to investigate the cause of metal parts damage accidents.

When metallic materials fail, the mode of failure changes due to various factors such as the properties of the material, applied stress, and environmental conditions. By observing the fracture surface in detail using an electron microscope, it is possible to identify the cause of the failure to some extent from the fracture morphology. Failure modes can be broadly classified into four categories: ductile fracture, brittle fracture, fatigue fracture, and environmental fracture. Ductile fracture involves significant deformation, such as elongation, before failure occurs. Brittle fracture is characterized by crack propagation at a high speed without plastic deformation. Fatigue fracture occurs when cracks gradually propagate due to repeated stress. Environmental fracture is a failure that is significantly accelerated by corrosive environments, leading to rapid crack propagation.

[Safety] Accident investigation with 3D scanning

Collaboration across boundaries through data utilization! Introducing examples of medical field collaboration through medical-engineering partnerships.

We would like to introduce a case study of an accident investigation conducted using 3D scanning by our company. In the medical field, we decided to create an experimental device using strain gauges. To detect output with a strain gauge, several hundred microstrain (με) is required. On the other hand, there is a trade-off relationship between the condition of being below the yield stress and the detectable strain output value. By utilizing CAE and other tools, we successfully designed the experimental device. Through collaboration between medical and engineering fields, we were able to contribute, albeit modestly, to reducing the burden on patients and improving their quality of life (QOL). [Case Overview] ■ Industry: Medical ■ Job Type: Development ■ Experimental Content: Design and verification using CAE ■ Keywords: CAE, static analysis, elastic deformation, strain gauge *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
